The Talent of Faith (poem)

By Luke Labern

I love it when you look at me
When I'm fast, strong and free,
But even in the realm of anxiety
I love the fact that I continue to be.
That's what it's all about:
"What type of person are you?"
That's art in a nut shell,
That's what an artist does so well:
"It showed me who I really am,"
Even in the darkest days. That's the truth:
Life occurs in the sublime and the tragic—
Everything else is the pause before the magic.
So catch your breath and don't lament it—
Don't listen to the bullshit, so don't repent it.
Don't worry when you see people worse than you
Doing better—Though it isn't true that
What goes around comes around
(Apart from logical consequence),
Hard work does pay off. Those with less talent
And unbelievably successful, have one thing for sure:
Total faith in what they have.
From there it's just a small step to success,
And every talent can be extracted. No doubt
This sounds attractive. I'm glad.
Don't worry about how bad
Things look, or may just get:
For in the hidden edge of the mirror's shard
You'll find simplicity in what once was hard.
That's what I love to be, despite it all—
Because, alone, I'm at my most comfortable.

While I no longer stand by the work itself, the themes remain relevant: the meaning of life, finding purpose, exitalism, philosophical depression, nihilism, and the eessential questions of existence.

I was, and remain, open to discussion and to advice.
