Sweat (part IV: The Execution) (poem)
By Luke Labern
IV
[The Execution]
So be fluid
When it's time to settle --
And be solid
When it's time to stand.
Be unshakable. You will
Win or lose
Regardless, so forget
Damage reduction.
Fight and claw
And swing and crawl;
Bring back the literal meaning
Of 'giving your all.'
Death is cessation:
Death always wins.
But so does a
Champion.
Because a champion
Doesn't give up --
Even when the battle
Is over.
Be the first to arrive
And the last to leave.
Live what you do --
Don't just 'try'.
Clichés, remember:
Read all of the above
Literally,
Not euphemistically.
It's just that mindset
-- A free mind --
That allows tapping
Into truth possible.
No one makes you
Think anything:
They never can.
Never succumb to
Manipulation.
Manipulate your own life
And resist the temptation
To coast.
Don't walk: run --
Don't talk: act --
Don't just dream: get --
You will die: so live.
Make your death tragic
And simultaneously triumphant
By taking hold of life
And make
Its absence felt.
Upon your death,
Let them say
'Where should I begin?'
'There's so much to
Remember --
They deserve a
Rest:'
Now, the final cliché
To be taken seriously.
Read and re-read
Until you
Have truly grasped
The concepts in
Your own
Persona way.
To have really understood
And come to grips
With the concepts,
Your asserting
Their truth would
Mean you took life
Literally --
Precisely as I do.
Otherwise, you are literally
Denying its truth.
As always, I'll let you
Think in private.
But here it is,
Your chance to kill
A cliché, and
Live at 100%:
A Poem,
